Comesto nominated for West Midlands Tech Awards 2018
Comesto nominated for Digital Start Up of the year and E-Commerce site of the year
There were lots of air punches and high fives at Comesto HQ when we received the news that we have been shortlisted – not just for one, but TWO honours at the 2018 West Midlands Tech Awards: Digital Start Up of the year and E-Commerce site of the year.
It’s a real boost for us as a new company – and also for the independent food and drink producers and discerning pub, restaurant and cafe buyers who use our service.
We set out to provide a cost and time-effective way for producers to showcase their goods to buyers who are looking for high quality, original items to enhance their customers’ experience.
Diners and drinkers nowadays expect not only good quality fare, but interesting and unusual choices to tempt them. They expect venues to keep up with current trends such as the demand for different kinds of gin and unusual bar snacks. This means that those with responsibility for sourcing have to spend time researching what is on offer, and don’t always find exactly what they want, or get the chance to negotiate the best deals.
For producers, on the other hand, one of the biggest headaches is having the time and budget to get their brand known. Paul Hargreaves, Chief Executive of Cotswold Fayre, a leading name in wholesale food distribution, said in an article in Speciality Food magazine that:
“… there are some brands, winners of 3 star Great Taste Awards amongst them, where the sales are absolutely hopeless. Price is sometimes an issue, but the common factor is the lack of resources required to market their brand.”
This is where Comesto can help. Our service is the first digital platform designed to put the people who want to buy high quality, independently produced food and drink directly in touch with suppliers who can provide exactly what they are looking for. It’s free to buyers, with a small monthly cost to suppliers, who are promoted on the Comesto platform and via email and social media. Buyers can make a tailored search in seconds, then request a sample, quote or call back at the click of a button. They can also order instantly – or, if they’re interested in a supplier but not quite ready to buy, they can click ‘follow’ and receive information about new products, offers and promotions from that supplier.
Our supplier customers are delighted to be able to raise their profiles in this way, at low cost and without having to devote large amounts of time to marketing. Our buyers find that signing up to Comesto saves them both time and money, making sure they know what’s out there and giving them direct access to deals tailored to their particular business needs. Savvy suppliers make the most of the opportunities for direct contact with interested buyers, finding out what they need and cultivating great business relationships. They also make sure that those following their brand are kept up to date and made aware of special offers. All of this is quick and easy to do through Comesto.
We’re looking forward to meeting the other West Midlands Tech Awards nominees at a drinks reception sponsored by Robert Walters Recruitment on 22 November, and we’ll find out who has won in each category at the main event on Thursday 13 December – we can’t wait!
